This Privacy Policy explains how AuraStep ("the App", "we", "our") collects, uses, stores and protects your information. AuraStep is a free Android step counter developed by Rohan Krythos ("the Developer", based in Haryana, India). By using the App you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Summary
- You can use AuraStep without creating an account. The App silently creates an anonymous account so your data can be backed up; signing in with email or Google is optional.
- Your steps and profile are stored on your phone and backed up to your account in Google Firebase (cloud).
- We do not sell your personal data. Ads are shown through Google AdMob.
- You can delete your account and all your data inside the App at any time, or by following the page Delete your AuraStep account and data.
2. Information We Collect
a) Information you give us
- Profile details — name (or nickname), height, weight, age, gender and your goal type (lose, maintain or gain weight) with your daily step goal. These are used only to calculate your daily goal, distance and estimated calories.
- Account details (only if you sign in) — your email address and a password (stored by Firebase Authentication in encrypted form; we never see your password), or the basic profile that Google shares when you choose "Sign in with Google". If you create an email account we send you one verification email.
b) Information generated by using the App
- Step and activity data — step counts from your phone's built-in step-counter sensor (via the Android Activity Recognition permission), and the daily distance, estimated calories, active minutes and goal calculated from them, plus your streaks and history.
- Settings — such as theme, tracking mode (Real-Time or Periodic) and notification preferences, stored on your phone.
- Account identifier — a random user ID created by Firebase Authentication (anonymous or linked to your sign-in).
c) Information collected automatically by third-party services
- Crash and diagnostic data (Firebase Crashlytics) — crash logs, device model, Android version, app version and an installation identifier, used to find and fix bugs.
- Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics) — aggregated, non-identifying app events and device/app information to understand which features are used. Where the law requires your consent (for example in the European Economic Area and the UK), analytics are switched on only after you accept in the consent message.
- Advertising data (Google AdMob) — the Advertising ID and similar device information so ads can be served, limited and measured. In regions that require consent, ads are requested only after you respond to Google's consent message.
AuraStep does not collect your precise or approximate location, contacts, photos, files, microphone, camera or phone number, and it does not read other apps' data.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To count your steps, show your progress, history, streaks and home-screen widgets, and send the notifications you allow.
- To back up your data to your account and restore it when you sign in on a new phone or reinstall the App.
- To keep the App stable and secure, fix crashes and improve features.
- To show ads that keep the App free.
- To answer your support requests and meet legal obligations.
4. Where Your Data Is Stored and How It Is Protected
- On your phone — profile and step history are kept in an on-device database inside the App's private storage.
- In the cloud — a backup copy (profile and daily step records) is stored in Google Cloud Firestore under your account ID. Security rules allow only the signed-in owner of an account to read or change that account's data. Data travels over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections. Google's servers may be located outside your country.
- No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we use industry-standard Google services and access rules to protect your data.
5. Permissions the App Uses
- Physical activity (Activity Recognition) — to read the step counter. Without it the App cannot count steps.
- Foreground service (health) and Notifications — used when "Real-Time Tracking" is on, to keep step counting running with a visible notification, and to show your goal and progress notifications. You can turn either off in the App or in Android settings.
- Receive boot completed — to resume step tracking automatically after your phone restarts.
- Ignore battery optimizations (optional) — lets you ask Android not to stop step tracking in the background. It is only requested if you choose to allow it.
- Internet / network state — for cloud backup, sign-in, crash reports, analytics and ads.
- Advertising ID — used by Google AdMob for advertising.
6. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the App, and only as needed:
7. Data Retention
- Your cloud backup is kept until you delete your account (see section 8).
- Data on your phone is kept until you log out, delete your account, clear the App's storage or uninstall the App.
- Crash and analytics data are kept by Google for the periods described in Firebase's documentation.
8. Your Choices, Access and Deletion
- Access and correction — your profile and history are visible and editable inside the App (Settings).
- Log out — Settings → Account → Log out. We first back up your data, then remove it from the phone so the next person using it cannot see it. Log in again to restore it.
- Delete your account and data — Settings → Account → Delete account (or "Delete my data" if you never signed in). After you confirm it is you, we permanently delete your Firebase account, all cloud data stored for it, and the data on your phone. You can also request deletion on the web: aurastep-delete-account.html or by email (section 11). This cannot be undone.
- Notifications, tracking and permissions — change them anytime in the App or Android settings.
- Ads and analytics choices — you can respond to or change the consent message when it is shown, and you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR/UK GDPR, or the California CCPA/CPRA), you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to or port your data, and to withdraw consent. Contact us and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising outside of the Google advertising services described above.
9. Children's Privacy
AuraStep is not directed at children under 13 and you must be at least 13 years old to set up a profile. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Health Disclaimer
AuraStep is a fitness and wellness tool, not a medical device. Steps, distance and calories are estimates and are not medical advice. Talk to a doctor before changing your exercise or diet.
11. Changes to This Policy; Contact Us
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the revised policy.
